分析：译文主谓结构these experiments were designed to investigate很常见，而按汉语直译的主谓结构these experimental designs were applied to investigate则极少见。
例36：计算机的运算速度比人类大脑中的神经细胞要快很多倍。
译文：Computers work many times more rapidly than nerve cells in the human brain．
分析：汉语主语“计算机的运算速度”转译为英语的主谓结构computers work⋯ ，符合英语的表达习惯。
例37：沸点的定义就是蒸气压等于大气压时的温度。
译文：Boiling point is defined as the temperature at which the vapor pressure is equal to that of the atmosphere．
分析：A is defined as B是科技英语定义描述的常用句型。
2．3．2介绍物体的性能或特点
        常将作主语定语的名词转译为主语，以have，show等作谓语，原主语译为宾语。
例38：这种轴承的缺点是滚道与滚子需要近乎完美的几何形状。
译文：Such bearings have the disadvantage of requiring almost perfect geometry of raceways and rollers．
例39：河流下游的情况是变化多样的。
译文：The lower reaches of rivers show considerable variety．
分析：汉语主语“情况”并人宾语variety(condition of being various or varied)。
2．3．3汉语主语译成英语的介词宾语
例40：这台机器的结构简单，但工作效率很高。
译文：This machine is simple in design yet efficient in operation．

2．4．1时间状语译为主语
例4l：计算机产业在过去十年里取得了巨大的进展。
译文：The last decade has seen the great advance in computer industry．
分析：以表示时间段的短语为主语，用see，witness，notice， find，use，bring，offer，provide等作谓语动词，是很地道的英语书面语，这种物主句的拟人化，使行文更加生动。
例42：汽缸内蒸汽膨胀时，部分蒸汽冷凝。
译文：The expansion of the steam in the cy1inder causes some of the steam to condense．
比较：When the steam expands in the cylinder，some of the steam condenses．
分析：汉语原句为时间状语复句，其语义与“汽缸内蒸汽膨胀会导致部分蒸汽冷凝”相近，通过转换归类于1．3．2节；状语复句通过名词化转译为名词性短语作句子主语，虽可使句子结构简明、紧凑，但会失去原文对复句内容的强调意义，因此，必须权衡利弊，从译文的整体加以考虑，灵活处理。
2．4．2原因状语译为“形容词+名词短语”或“动作名词+of”短语作句子主语译文主谓语之间隐含因果关系。
