子中，原译的斜体部分为动宾结构，属冗余信息，不仅缺乏实质内容，而且拗口。改译时可将它完全删除，把后面的动名词短语转化为限定形式，作句子的谓语。另外，在汉英刮译中，为了使译文更简洁，可以使用一些动词替代相应的动词短语，如：
to investigate = to make an investigation of
to decide to = to make a decision to
to influence = to have an influence on
to respect= to have respect for
to assist to provide assistance to
to improve = to bring about an improvement in
to control = to exercise control over
2．3形容词与副词冗余
        汉语中有很多加强语气的副词，属冗余信息，如“不切实际的幻想”、“毫无根据的诽谤”等。受汉语表达方式的影响，如将这两个短语分别译为“impractical illusion”和“groundless defamation”，不仅不合逻辑，而且歪曲原意，实属多此一举(幻想本来就是不实际的。诽谤本来就毫无根据)。类似的例子还有：
(11)严重的自然灾害
A：a serious natural disaster
B：a natural disaster
(12)这一理论是党的宝贵精神财富。
A：That theory is a valuable ideological treasure of the Party．
B：That theory is an ideological treasure of the Party．
例(11)、(12)中斜体部分的形容词与其所修饰的名词形成了信息冗余，disaster一词蕴含着serious之意，而treasure也无需valuable来修饰。再如：
(13)这样，我们就能够抓住这个有利机会把国民经济提高到一个新的水平。
A：In this way, we can seize the favorable opportunity to raise the national economy to a new leve1．
B：In this way, we can seize the opportunity to raise the national economy to a new leve1．
(14)农业的发展依然是中国国民经济发展的重要基础。
A：Agricultural growth remains the important foundation for the development of China’s national economy as a whole．
B：Agricultural growth remains the foundation for the development of China’s national economy as a whole．
        汉语中的许多副词常用来加强动词或形容词的意义，如：胜利召开、热烈欢迎、认真执行、彻底粉碎等。如果直译成英语，常常会与所修饰的词构成语义冗余。再如：
(15)有些人担心中国是否会一贯遵守这个协议。
A：Some people are worried whether China will abide by the agreement consistently．
B：Some people are worried whether China will abide by the agreement．
        动词短语abide by意为“遵守”，本身已包含consistently之意，故译文中应将该词删去。
(16)我们将继续严厉打击走私活动。
A：We shal1 continue to severely crack down on smuggling．
B：We shall continue to crack down on smuggling．
