外贸文书包括大量的外贸函电，广告，合同，单证等涉外文书，内容涉及一般的贸易惯例，程序和做法外贸政策，外贸理论以及其它一些对外贸易知识，也会涉及到一定的专门知识和行业术语，如合同，进出口单据业务和国际支付手段等等。其中许多知识要靠平时的积累和记忆。翻译时，忌讳的是搞文字对等。译文应照顾其文体特点，正确传达其内容和精神，再现原文的形式和文体特色，还要讲究灵活对等(Good translation not only gives a full transcript of the original writing in meaning, form and style, but also pays attention to dynamic equivalence)。要妥善地处理原文与译文之间的差异，就要借助于我们通常所说的翻译技巧。翻译技巧就是具体的翻译方法。本文从以下七个方面进行了探讨:

        一、加词译法

        1、Discounts rest with the quantity you ordered.

        折扣的多少取决于订货量的多少。

        2、One in duplicate in the Chinese and English languages, both texts being equally authentic.

        本协议一式两份，用中英文写成，两种文本具有同等的效力。

        3、Referring to L/c No.58A issued by the Chartered Bank of Liverpool，we must point out that the unit of quantity doesn't conform to the contract.

        关于你方由渣打银行开出的第58A号信用证，我们必须指出数量单位与合同不符。

        二、减词译法

        1、We wish to acknowledge receipt of the captioned L/c for the amount of 5, 000 pounds.

        我们已经收到金额为5000英磅的标题所指的信用证。

        2、We take the opportunity to quote C.L.F Hong Kong.

        兹奉告香港到岸价。

        3、We assure you of our establishment of the relevant L/co.

        我们保证开立相关的信用证。

        4、We have quantity discount, seasonal discount and exceptional discount.

        有数量折扣，季节性折扣和额外折扣。

        三、否定译法

        1、We regret to learn that you have failed to get your import licence.

        得知你方未能获得进口许可证，深表遗憾。

        2、Your promotion is subject the final approval of the president.

        你的晋升未经董事长最后核准无效。

        3、This price concession will not apply after January 26.

        此项让价元月26日失效。

        四、词类的转换

        1、They are regular visitors to the Guangzhou Fair.

        他们经常参加广交会。

        2、You are kindly requested to “accept” this draft by signing on the back.

        请在汇票背面签上“承兑”字样。

        3、The employment contract remains valid for three years.

        该聘用合同的有效期为三年

        4、On receipt of your amendment to the L/c we shall arrange shipment without fail.

        一收到你方信用证修改通知书，我们立即发运。

        5、The L/c is available by draft at 30days after sight.

        本信用证凭30天期的远期汇票支付。

        6、Freight is for the buyers' account.

        运费由买方负担。

        五、反译法

        1、Without your co-operation we can't conclude this agreement.

        由于贵方的合作，我们得以达成了协议。

        2、Please don't hesitate to ask for our catalogues and price lists.

        请随时索取我方得目录表和报价单。

        3、Handle with care! Keep upright!

        小心轻放!切勿倒置!

        4、If you find our terms and conditions acceptable, please let us know by cable.

        对我方条款如无异议，请电复。
