        例10)There is a Vietnamese saying on point“The laws of the emperor stop at the village gate．” Likewise in China the old saying，“The sky is high and the emperor far away” is often interpreted in modem parlance as “There are policies above and counter measures below．” This is reality．

        接受问卷调查的有美国、英国、加拿大、澳大利亚等国的教师、商人和家庭主妇，他们当中有的人曾在中国工作或任教过。笔者主要通过电子邮件的附件和书面问卷两种形式进行调查。回收25份有效问卷。

        从问卷调查的结果来看，对于两段报道中的中国特色词汇的翻译策略是有意迎合懂英语的中国读者这一观点，绝大部分的西方读者并不认同。相反，大部分接受问卷调查的读者认为这些报道中的翻译手法主要是迎合西方读者。一位读者还表达了如下看法：

        “I would guess that the authors were primarily concerned with the interests of their western readers because that is where they would receive any kudos，if there were an y benefits to derive from their reports．The impact，or response，from Chinese English speakers would have little relevance to foreign journalists-their focus has to be on western readers ．”
