经贸涉及的领域非常广泛，包括金融、投资、保险、财会、经营管理、市场营销、信息处理、对外经贸合同和法律文书等，由于涉及到权利和义务的方方面面，经贸英语语言严谨，语法结构复杂，不允许有半点纰漏。

        1 准确理解原文，熟悉术语，了解专业知识

        经贸英语的用法和日常用法不大相同，我们平常所熟悉的普通名词在经贸英语中意思经常会有一些变化，如何翻译这些术语和习惯表达法，以及这些词应该和哪些词搭配都是非常重要的。近来随着经济发展的全球化趋势，新的词语层出不穷，在翻译时我们必须根据上下文去把握和理解其真正的含义。如：

        marine insurance policy的意思是“海运保险”，shipping order的意思是“装货单”，confirmed letter of credit的意思是“保兑信用证”，bin of exchange的意思是“汇票”，acceptance的意思是“承兑”，sight bill的意思是“即期汇票”，futures的意思是“期货交易”，margin的意思是“保证金”，license的意思是“许可证”，tender的意思是“投标”，promotional mix的意思是“推销组合”，barter system的意思是“易货制”，reserve的意思是“储备金”，outstanding的意思是“已公开发行并售出的(股票、公债等)”，discount rate的意思是“贴现率”，FOB(=Free On Board)的意思是“船上交货”，CIF(=Cost Insurance and Freight)的意思是“成本保险费加运费”，joint venture的意思是“合资企业”，foreign exchange dealing的意思则是“外汇交易”。如：

        We live in an era in which information，goods and capital speed around the globe，every hour of every day．

        译文：我们生活在这样一个时代，信息、货物和资金每时每刻在世界上流动。

        Since World War II．the U．S．has been the world’s largest economy and，in most years，the world’s largest exporter．

        译文：自从第二次世界大战以来，美国一直是世界上最大的经济大国。在大多数年代中，它又是世界上最大的出口国。

        这个句子里“economy”的本意是“经济”，根据上下文，此处的意思是“从经济角度看这个国家”，这里翻译成“经济大国”。

        Any claim by the Buyers regarding the goods shipped shall be filed within 15 days after arrival of the goods at the port of destination specified in the relative Bill of Lading and supported by a survey report issued by surveyor approved by the seller．

        译文：买方对于装运货物的任何索赔，必须于货到提单规定的目的地15天内提出，并须提供经卖方同意的公证机构出具的检验报告。

        这里claim的意思变为“索赔”，短语Bill of Lading的意思是“提单”。

        2 掌握文体特点，不同文体的翻译原则不同

        文体不同其语言风格就不同，比如经贸合同的语言非常精练、正式，有很多附加修饰成

        分。如：

        It shall be subject to ratification or acceptance by the signatory States．

        译文：本公约须经签字国批准或接受。(英语用了shall，汉语翻译时为了表达这种非常正式的文体用“应……”、“须……”等词。)

        Kindly tell us what steps you are going to take in the way of compensation for the damage．

        译文：敬请告诉我方将以什么方式来补偿这次损失。(Kindly tell us……使得说话的语气显得十分客气。)

        We would appreciate receiving details regarding the commodities．

        译文：如能告诉该商品的详细情况，则不胜感激。

        We must make claim on you for compensation with regard to this shipment，for it is not equal to the sample submitted，and contains large lumps， which will all have to be extracted before we are able to sell it．

        译文：此次所寄来的货品与样品大不相同，且有混入不少大块，在销售以前不得不全部清除。为此只好向贵公司提出损失赔偿。

        We hereby add confirmation to this credit and we undertake that documents presented for payment in conformity with terms of this credit will be duly on presentation．

        译文：兹对此证加保兑并保证于提示符合此证条款的单据时履行付款。
